Our reception staff and animal handlers will be pleased to advise any information we have on an animal’s background and will give you our assessment of its temperament. We are here to advise and help you.

Once you have decided on an animal to adopt you will be asked to complete paperwork including information about your home situation. We will ask whether you own your home or rent, and if you rent we ask for landlord consent for animals to live on the property.  For dog adoptions, your application will include a property inspection, whereby a staff member of SPCA Otago will visit the intended residence and approve the living conditions and property fencing. Finally you will pay the relevant adoption fee and then you can take your chosen pet home with you.

SPCA Otago highly recommends that you consider taking out Pet Insurance for your new pet. Vet care can be expensive, you may face hard decisions about what treatment you can afford. Pet insurance can help cover the costs of unexpected illness or pet emergencies. Southern Cross Pet Insurance are proud supporters of the SPCA. They have a range of plans to suit your needs and budget. Plus, if your pet is aged 6 -16 weeks, they could get free health cover for six weeks! Terms & conditions apply. SPCA Otago reserves the right to refuse an adoption.
